چکیده

This document contains additional comparisons of our approach and commercial software [1] on large real-world datasets. 1 Additional ExperimentsSection 2.3 of the paper introduced commercial software [1] as a state-of-the-art technique of pipe-run reconstruction. We purchased a license and used theirautomatical pipeline to reconstruct pipe-runs from the same dataset in Figure11 of the paper. The comparison is shown in Figure 1 of this supplementarydocument. Our results significantly outperform that of [1] due to the followingreasons: we introduce global similarities which increase the robustness of primi-tive detection under input scans with high-level noise and data incompleteness;our joint detection is more robust and faithful to the input data. Pipe-Run Extraction and Reconstruction from Point Clouds

This paper presents automatic methods to extract and reconstruct industrial site pipe-runs from large-scale point clouds. We observe three key characteristics in this modeling problem, namely, primitives, similarities, and joints. While primitives capture the dominant cylindric shapes, similarities reveal the inter-primitive relations intrinsic to industrial structures because of human design a...

3D Detection of Power-Transmission Lines in Point Clouds Using Random Forest Method

Inspection of power transmission lines using classic experts based methods suffers from disadvantages such as highel level of time and money consumption. Advent of UAVs and their application in aerial data gathering help to decrease the time and cost promenantly. The purpose of this research is to present an efficient automated method for inspection of power transmission lines based on point c...

Adaptive extraction and representation of geometric structures from unorganized 3D point sets

The primary emphasis of this thesis concerns the extraction and representation of intrinsic properties of three-dimensional (3D) unorganized point clouds. The points establishing a point cloud as it mainly emerges from LiDaR (Light Detection and Ranging) scan devices or by reconstruction from two-dimensional (2D) image series represent discrete samples of real world objects. Depending on the ty...

Target detection Bridge Modelling using Point Cloud Segmentation Obtained from Photogrameric UAV

In recent years, great efforts have been made to generate 3D models of urban structures in photogrammetry and remote sensing. 3D reconstruction of the bridge, as one of the most important urban structures in transportation systems, has been neglected because of its geometric and structural complexity. Due to the UAV technology development in spatial data acquisition, in this study, the point cl...

Autonomous Modeling of Pipes within Point Clouds

Three-dimensional models are in increasing demand for design, maintenance, operations and construction project management. Point-clouds are the main output of automatic data collection using laser-scanners and photogrammetric technologies. Pipe-works may comprise 50% of the value of important construction projects such as industrial and research facilities. We have developed a practical and cos...
